Method

Preparation

1

Chill glass

If desired, place a Collins (tall) glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while preparing the drink to chill.

Build the Cocktail

2

Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice.

3

Add the gin (2 oz), fresh lemon juice (0.75 oz), and simple syrup (0.75 oz) to the shaker.

4

Cap the shaker and shake vigorously for about 10–12 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted.

5

Discard the chilling ice/water from the Collins glass if used, then fill the glass with fresh ice (large cubes or crushed).

6

Strain the shaken mixture into the prepared Collins glass over the ice using a fine or Hawthorne strainer.

7

Top gently with club soda (about 3 oz) to fill; stir once or twice with a bar spoon to combine without flattening the soda.

Garnish & Serve

8

Garnish with a lemon wheel or wedge on the rim and drop in a maraschino cherry if using.

9

Serve immediately with a straw or long stirring spoon.
