Method

Preparing the Patties

1

Mix the Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently with your hands until just combined; avoid over-mixing to keep the patties tender.

2

Form the Patties

Divide the meat mixture into four equal portions (approximately 6 ounces each). Form each portion into a patty that is about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent them from puffing up during cooking.

Cooking the Patties

3

Preheat the Grill or Skillet

Preheat your grill or a skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, you may want to add a little oil to prevent sticking.

4

Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side until browned. Flip the patties and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes for medium doneness. Add a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.

Assembling the Burger

5

Prepare the Buns

While the patties are cooking, you can toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until they are golden brown.

6

Assemble the Burger

On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf. Top with a cooked patty with melted cheese, a slice of tomato, and pickles. Add ketchup and mustard to taste, then place the top half of the bun on each burger.
