Soda Base

1

Chill glass and prepare ice

Place a serving glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill with ice water while you prepare ingredients. When ready, discard the ice water and add 4 fresh ice cubes to the glass.

2

Combine sweetener and flavor

Add 2 tablespoons of simple syrup and 1 teaspoon of the chosen flavoring syrup or extract to the glass. If you like a slightly brighter taste, add 1 teaspoon fresh lemon or lime juice. Add an optional 1/4 teaspoon pinch of salt if using (it enhances flavor). Stir briefly to combine with the ice so the sweetener begins to chill.

3

Add carbonated water

Slowly pour 1 cup of cold carbonated water down the side of the glass to preserve bubbles. Pour gently to minimize foam and overflow.

4

Adjust and mix

Stir gently once or twice with a long spoon to distribute the flavoring and syrup without losing carbonation. Taste and adjust: add up to 1 additional teaspoon of simple syrup for more sweetness, or a few more drops of flavoring for stronger flavor.

5

Garnish and serve

Garnish with a lemon or lime wedge, a mint sprig, or a fruit slice on the rim. Serve immediately while cold and fizzy.
