1

Prepare glass

Chill a highball or Collins glass by filling it with ice and setting it aside while you mix the cocktail (about 1–2 minutes). Discard or reuse the ice used for chilling before serving.

2

Mix base

In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz tequila, 4 oz fresh orange juice, 0.5 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz simple syrup, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters. Fill the shaker with ice (about 3/4 full).

3

Shake

Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds, until the shaker is well chilled and slightly frosted on the outside.

4

Strain over fresh ice

Discard the chilling ice from the glass and fill the glass with fresh ice (about 1 cup). Strain the shaken mixture into the prepared glass over the fresh ice, leaving a little space at the top for the grenadine.

5

Add grenadine for sunrise effect

Slowly pour 0.5 oz grenadine down the inside edge of the glass or gently over the back of a bar spoon so it sinks to the bottom and creates a layered gradient (the "sunrise"). Do not stir after adding grenadine.

6

Garnish and serve

Garnish with an orange wheel on the rim and a maraschino cherry on top (if using). Serve immediately with a straw so the drinker can gently mix if desired.
