Method
Dough Preparation
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
Mix Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture along with olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
Knead Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
Let Dough Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
Sauce Preparation
Pizza Assembly
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
Shape Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll out the dough into your desired shape and thickness.
Add Sauce
Spread a layer of the prepared tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
Add Toppings
Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce and add fresh basil leaves on top.
Bake Pizza
Transfer the pizza onto a baking sheet or pizza stone. Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
Finish and Serve
Once baked, drizzle with extra virgin olive oil, slice, and serve hot.
