Preparation
Prepare the espresso
Brew 1 cup of strong espresso coffee. Let it cool to room temperature. If desired, mix in 2 tablespoons of coffee liqueur for added flavor.
Make the mascarpone mixture
In a mixing bowl, whisk together 3 egg yolks and 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar until the mixture becomes pale and creamy. Gently fold in 1 cup of mascarpone cheese until smooth and well combined.
Whip the heavy cream
In a separate bowl, whip 1 cup of heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Carefully fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture, ensuring not to deflate the cream.
Dip the ladyfingers
Quickly dip each of the 24 ladyfinger cookies into the cooled espresso, making sure not to soak them. Layer half of the dipped ladyfingers at the bottom of a serving dish.
Layer the mascarpone mixture
Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the layer of ladyfingers, smoothing it out evenly.
Repeat layers
Repeat the process with another layer of dipped ladyfingers followed by the remaining mascarpone mixture on top.
Chill the tiramisu
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.
Serve
Before serving, dust the top with 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder. Cut into squares and enjoy your homemade tiramisu!
