1

Prepare glass

Choose a chilled lowball/Old Fashioned glass. If you like a slightly colder drink, place the glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill with ice then discard before mixing.

2

Combine base and bitters

Add 0.25 oz simple syrup to the glass, then add 2 dashes Angostura bitters and 1 dash orange bitters.

3

Add whiskey

Pour 2 oz bourbon (or rye, if preferred) into the glass over the syrup and bitters.

4

Stir and dilute

Add one large ice cube (or enough ice to nearly fill the glass). Stir gently but thoroughly for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 rotations) until the drink is properly chilled and lightly diluted.

5

Garnish & finish

Express the oils of an orange peel over the surface by holding the peel skin-side down above the drink and giving it a firm snap to release the oils. Rub the rim of the glass with the peel, then drop the peel into the drink. Optionally, add a Luxardo cherry on a pick and rest it alongside the ice cube.

6

Serve

Serve immediately. Sip slowly to enjoy the balance of spirit, sugar, and bitters.
