Method

Preparation

1

Rinse the Rice

Place the long-grain white rice in a fine mesh strainer and rinse it under cold running water until the water runs clear. This helps to remove excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming gummy.

2

Measure Water

In a medium saucepan, measure 2 cups of water. This will be used to cook the rinsed rice.

3

Add Salt

Add 0.5 tsp of salt to the water in the saucepan. This enhances the flavor of the rice.

4

Add Butter or Oil (optional)

If desired, add 1 tablespoon of butter or oil to the water for added flavor and richness.

Cooking

5

Bring Water to a Boil

Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and bring the water to a rolling boil.

6

Add Rice

Once the water is boiling, carefully add the rinsed rice to the pot. Stir briefly to prevent sticking.

7

Simmer the Rice

Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan with a lid, and let the rice simmer. Cook for 18-20 minutes, or until all the water has been absorbed.

8

Fluff the Rice

After the cooking time is complete, remove the saucepan from heat but keep it covered. Let it sit for an additional 5 minutes. Then, use a fork to fluff the rice gently before serving.
