Sauce Ingredients

Method

Preparation

1

Heat Olive Oil

In a large saucepan, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat until shimmering.

2

Sauté Garlic

Add 4 cloves of minced garlic to the pan and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

3

Add Tomatoes

Pour in the 28 ounces of canned whole tomatoes, including the juice, and break them up with a spoon or spatula.

4

Incorporate Tomato Paste

Stir in 2 tablespoons of tomato paste until well combined with the tomatoes.

5

Season the Sauce

Add 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, 1 teaspoon of dried basil, 1 teaspoon of sugar, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper to the mixture.

6

Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce heat to low. Let it simmer uncovered for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

7

Finish with Fresh Basil

Once the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency, stir in 1 cup of chopped fresh basil leaves just before serving.
