Preparation

1

Prepare the Yams

Peel and chop the yams into 1-inch cubes. Place them in a large pot filled with water.

2

Boil the Yams

Bring the pot to a boil over medium-high heat and cook the yams until they are just tender, about 10-15 minutes. Drain and set aside.

Cooking

3

Make the Syrup

In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, add brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and salt. Stir until the mixture comes to a simmer and the sugar is dissolved.

4

Combine Yams and Syrup

Add the drained yams to the skillet with the syrup. Gently fold the yams into the mixture until they are well coated.

5

Bake the Yams

Transfer the yams and syrup mixture to a baking dish. If using, sprinkle marshmallows and/or chopped nuts on top. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes, or until the yams are caramelized and the marshmallows are golden brown.

6

Serve

Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your delicious candied yams!
