Method
Ice Cream Preparation
Make the Chocolate Ice Cream Base
In a medium saucepan, combine milk, heavy cream, sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and salt. Heat over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the mixture is warm and the sugar and cocoa powder are fully dissolved. Do not let it boil.
Chill the Mixture
Remove from heat and let the mixture cool to room temperature. Then refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until completely chilled.
Churn the Ice Cream
Once chilled, pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.
Freeze the Ice Cream
Transfer the churned ice cream into an airtight container and freeze for at least 4 hours or until firm.
Assembly
Serve the Brown Cow
In a tall glass, scoop in chocolate ice cream until about 3/4 full. Slowly pour Virgil’s Root Beer over the ice cream until the glass is full. Serve immediately with a straw or spoon.
