Method
Cake Directions
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
Combine Wet Ingredients
In another bowl, whisk together eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.
Combine Mixtures
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Stir in boiling water until smooth.
Bake
Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Cool
Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans to cool completely on wire racks.

Combine Ingredients
In a mixing bowl, beat together cocoa powder, butter, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
Assembly Directions
Layer Cake
Once cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of coconut pecan frosting on top, then add the second layer and repeat. Top with the third layer.
Frost Cake
Spread the chocolate frosting over the top and sides of the cake. Decorate as desired.
