Method

Dough Preparation

1

Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.

2

Make Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Once the yeast mixture is foamy, add it to the flour mixture along with olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.

3

Knead Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

4

Let Dough Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Cheese Filling Preparation

5

Mix Cheese Filling

In a mixing bowl, combine cheddar cheese, cream cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Mix until well blended and smooth.

Shaping and Baking

6

Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

7

Shape Pretzel Sticks

Once dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope, about 12 inches long, and make a small indent in the middle to add filling.

8

Fill with Cheese

Take a small amount of the cheese filling and place it in the indent of each pretzel stick. Pinch the dough closed around the filling.

9

Baking Soda Bath

In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add baking soda. Carefully lower each pretzel stick into the boiling solution for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on the prepared baking sheet.

10

Bake

Brush each pretzel stick with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse sea salt. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
