Base & Spirits

Method

Prep

1

Prepare honey syrup

If you don't have honey syrup ready, combine equal parts honey and warm water (for example 1/4 cup honey + 1/4 cup warm water). Stir until fully combined and cool before using. Measure 0.5 oz for the cocktail.

2

Optional rim

If desired, run an orange wedge around the rim of a chilled rocks glass, then dip into coarse salt or sugar to coat. Set glass aside.

Build & Shake

3

Add the tequila, orange liqueur, aged rum (if using), fresh lime juice, fresh orange juice, honey syrup, and two dashes of Angostura bitters into a cocktail shaker.

4

Fill the shaker with ice. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is cold and slightly frosted.

Finish & Garnish

5

If you used gold luster dust: place a small pinch (about 0.1 tsp) into the bottom of the chilled glass. Strain the cocktail over fresh ice into the prepared glass. The luster dust will swirl and create a shimmering, 'Midas' effect.

6

If you used gold leaf: gently float a small piece of edible gold leaf on the surface of the cocktail after pouring. Do not stir; let it rest as a decorative flourish.

7

Garnish with an orange wheel or a long orange twist expressed over the drink (twist the peel to release oils, then drop or perch on the rim). Serve immediately.
