Method

Cooking Pasta

1

Boil the Pasta

In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add 2 cups of macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain the pasta and set aside.

Making Cheese Sauce

2

Prepare the Roux

In the same pot over medium heat, melt 4 tablespoons of butter. Once melted, add 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour and whisk continuously for about 2 minutes until it turns golden brown.

3

Add Milk

Gradually pour in 2 cups of milk while whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Continue to cook until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

4

Incorporate Cheese

Remove the pot from heat and stir in 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese until fully melted and smooth. Season with 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 teaspoon of paprika.

Combining and Baking

5

Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until the pasta is well coated.

6

Optional Topping

If using, mix 1 cup of breadcrumbs and 0.5 cup of grated Parmesan cheese in a bowl. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the macaroni and cheese.

7

Bake (optional)

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the mac and cheese for 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
