Method

Preparation

1

Peel and Cut Potatoes

Peel the Yukon Gold potatoes and cut them into evenly sized chunks (about 1-2 inches). This ensures they cook evenly.

2

Boil Potatoes

In a large pot, add the cut potatoes and cover them with cold water. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to a simmer. Cook for 15-20 minutes or until the potatoes are fork-tender.

Mashing

3

Drain Potatoes

Once cooked, drain the potatoes in a colander and return them to the pot. Allow them to steam for a minute to remove excess moisture.

4

Add Butter and Cream

Add the stick of unsalted butter (cut into pieces) and 1 cup of heavy cream to the potatoes. If using garlic, add minced garlic at this stage.

5

Mash Potatoes

Using a potato masher or a ricer, mash the potatoes until they reach your desired consistency. For a creamier texture, continue mashing and add more cream as needed.

Finishing Touches

6

Season

Season the mashed potatoes with black pepper to taste. Mix well to combine.

7

Garnish and Serve

Transfer the mashed potatoes to a serving bowl. If desired, garnish with chopped chives for added flavor and presentation. Serve warm.
