Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place the martini or coupe glass in the freezer for at least 5 minutes, or fill with ice water while you prepare the drink to thoroughly chill the glass.

2

Measure

Using a jigger, measure 1.5 oz gin and 1.5 oz dry vermouth (a true 50-50 ratio).

3

Combine with bitters

Pour the gin and dry vermouth into a mixing glass or cocktail shaker. Add 2 dashes of orange bitters.

4

Add ice and stir

Fill the mixing glass with ice (about 1 cup or enough to come well above the liquid). Stir gently with a bar spoon for 20–30 seconds until the liquid is well chilled and slightly diluted (the mixing glass should feel very cold). Do not shake; stirring preserves clarity and a silky texture.

5

Strain

Empty the ice or water from the chilled serving glass. Using a strainer, pour the mixed martini into the chilled glass, leaving the mixing ice behind.

Garnish & Finish

6

Prepare garnish

If using a lemon twist: use a peeler to remove a 1–2-inch strip of lemon peel, avoiding the bitter white pith. Express the oils by holding the peel over the glass and giving it a quick twist, then rub the rim of the glass with the peel and drop it into the drink. If using an olive: skewer one olive and drop it into the glass.

7

Serve

Present immediately while very cold. Sip and enjoy the balanced 50-50 profile—herbaceous gin and savory vermouth in equal measure.

Cleanup

8

Rinse and dry equipment promptly to prevent residue from sticking. Return the glass to the freezer or wash and store.
