Method

Preparation

1

Wash and Cut Potatoes

Thoroughly wash the Russet potatoes under cold water to remove any dirt. Using a sharp knife, cut each potato into thin strips, about 1/4 inch thick.

2

Soak Potatoes

Place the cut potato strips in a large bowl filled with cold water. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This step helps to remove excess starch and results in crispier fries.

Frying

3

Preheat Oil

In a large, deep pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can use a deep-fry thermometer to check the temperature.

4

Dry Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess water. This is important to prevent oil splatters.

5

Fry Potatoes

Carefully add a batch of the dried potato strips into the hot oil. Do not overcrowd the pot; fry in batches if necessary. Fry the potatoes for about 5-7 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy.

6

Drain and Season

Once the fries are cooked, use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. While they are still hot, season with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to taste.

Serving

7

Serve Hot

Serve the fries immediately while they are hot and crispy. Enjoy them as is or with your favorite dipping sauce!
