Method

Cooking Pasta

1

Boil the Pasta

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually around 8-10 minutes.

2

Drain the Pasta

Once cooked, drain the macaroni in a colander and set aside.

Making Cheese Sauce

3

Melt the Butter

In the same pot used for the pasta, melt the butter over medium heat.

4

Add Flour

Once the butter is melted, add the all-purpose flour and whisk constantly for about 1-2 minutes to create a roux. It should be lightly golden.

5

Add Milk

Gradually pour in the milk while whisking continuously to avoid lumps. Cook for 3-5 minutes until the mixture thickens.

6

Add Cheese and Seasoning

Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and mustard powder. Continue stirring until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth.

Combining and Serving

7

Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until all the pasta is evenly coated.

8

Prepare Optional Topping

If using, combine breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, and paprika in a small bowl.

9

Bake (optional)

Transfer the macaroni and cheese to a greased baking dish. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture on top. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes or until the topping is golden brown.

10

Serve

Serve the macaroni and cheese warm, either from the pot or the baking dish, and enjoy!
