Method
Prepare the French Toast
Step 1: Whisk the Egg Mixture
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
Step 2: Soak the Bread
Preheat your wood oven to 375°F (190°C). Dip each slice of thick-cut bread into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for about 30 seconds on each side.
Step 3: Arrange in Baking Dish
Place the soaked bread slices in a single layer in a greased baking dish. Pour any remaining egg mixture over the top of the bread.
Step 4: Bake the French Toast
Bake the bread in the wood oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
Prepare the Whipped Ricotta
Step 5: Blend the Ricotta
In a separate bowl, combine ricotta cheese, honey, and vanilla extract. Use an electric mixer or a whisk to whip the mixture until it is light and fluffy.
Assemble and Serve
Step 6: Top the French Toast
Once the French toast is baked, remove it from the oven and let it cool slightly. Serve each slice topped with a generous dollop of whipped ricotta, a spoonful of apple preserves, and a sprinkle of sliced almonds.
Step 7: Add Maple Syrup
Drizzle maple syrup over the assembled French toast to taste. Enjoy your delicious wood oven baked French toast!
