Burger Preparation

1

Form the Patties

In a large bowl, gently mix the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each into a ball. Flatten each ball into a patty, about 1/2 inch thick.

2

Cook the Patties

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the patties to the grill. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side until browned. Flip the patties and place a slice of American cheese on each. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted and the patty is cooked to your desired doneness.

3

Toast the Buns

While the patties are cooking, cut the burger buns in half and place them cut-side down on the grill or in a separate skillet. Toast for about 1-2 minutes or until golden brown.

Assembly

4

Prepare the Toppings

While the patties are cooking, slice the tomato and onion. Wash and dry the lettuce leaves.

5

Assemble the Burgers

Once the patties are cooked and cheese is melted, place each patty on the bottom half of the toasted bun. Layer with lettuce, a slice of tomato, a few pickles, and onion. Drizzle ketchup and mustard to taste. Place the top half of the bun on each burger.

6

Serve

Serve the State Smash Burgers immediately with your choice of sides.
