Margarita Mix
The 'Barco' Finish
Method
Prepare Glass
Rim the glass
Run the lime wedge around the rim of a highball or rocks glass (12–14 oz). Dip the wet rim into coarse sea salt to coat evenly. Set glass aside in the freezer or fill with a few ice cubes to chill while you prepare the cocktail.
Mix Margarita Base
Combine spirits and citrus
In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz blanco tequila, 1 oz Cointreau, 1 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz fresh orange juice and 0.5 oz agave syrup. Fill the shaker about two-thirds with ice (approx. 1 cup).
Shake
Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker feels very cold and the liquid is well-chilled and slightly frothy.
Assemble El Barco Margarita
Top with beer
Slowly pour 3 oz amber ale (or light Mexican lager) down the side of the glass so it floats and creates a layered appearance, or gently stir once to integrate the beer and margarita base if you prefer a more uniform drink. Pour slowly to avoid excessive foam.
Garnish and finish
Garnish with a lime wheel on the rim or floated on top. Serve immediately with a straw or stirrer so the drinker can mix to taste.
