Arepa Base

Method

Arepa Base Preparation

1

Mix Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine 2 cups of masarepa, 2 cups of water, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Mix well until a dough forms.

2

Knead the Dough

Knead the dough for a few minutes until it is smooth and pliable. If the dough is too dry, add a little more water.

3

Shape Arepas

Divide the dough into 6 equal portions and shape each portion into a ball, then flatten into discs about 1/2 inch thick.

4

Cook Arepas

Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the arepas for about 5-7 minutes on each side until they are golden brown and cooked through.

Filling Preparation

5

Prepare Avocado

Slice the ripe avocado in half, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a mixing bowl. Mash it with a fork until smooth.

6

Combine Ingredients

To the mashed avocado, add 2 cups of shredded rotisserie chicken, 2 tablespoons of lime juice, 1 cup of mayonnaise, and 1 tablespoon of chopped cilantro. Mix well until combined.

7

Season to Taste

Taste the mixture and add salt as needed to enhance the flavor.

Assembly

8

Slice Arepas

Once the arepas are cooked, remove them from the skillet and let them cool slightly. Slice each arepa in half, creating a pocket.

9

Fill Arepas

Spoon the chicken and avocado filling generously into each arepa pocket.

10

Serve

Serve the Reina Pepiada arepas warm, with additional cilantro if desired. Enjoy!
