Burger Patty Ingredients

Toppings

Method

Preparing the Burger Patty

1

Mash the Chickpeas

In a large mixing bowl, mash the cooked chickpeas with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth, leaving some chunks for texture.

2

Mix Ingredients

Add the breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, ground cumin, ground coriander, salt, black pepper, beaten egg, and olive oil to the mashed chickpeas. Stir until well combined.

3

Form Patties

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about 1/2 inch thick.

4

Chill Patties

Place the patties on a plate and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to help them firm up.

Cooking the Patties

5

Heat the Pan

Heat a non-stick skillet or frying pan over medium heat and add a drizzle of olive oil.

6

Cook the Patties

Once the oil is hot, add the chilled chickpea patties to the pan. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.

7

Remove and Drain

Once cooked, remove the patties from the pan and let them drain on a paper towel to absorb excess oil.

Assembling the Burger

8

Prepare the Buns

Slice the burger buns in half and toast them lightly in the skillet or oven if desired.

9

Add the Patties

Place a cooked chickpea patty on the bottom half of each toasted bun.

10

Add Toppings

Layer the lettuce leaves, tomato slices, red onion, and avocado on top of the patties. Add ketchup and mustard to taste.

11

Complete the Burger

Place the top half of the bun on each burger and serve immediately.
