Pasta
Cheese Sauce
Method
Cooking Pasta
Boil the Water
In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil over high heat.
Cook the Macaroni
Once the water is boiling, add 2 cups of macaroni and a pinch of salt. Cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes, until al dente.
Drain the Pasta
Once cooked, drain the macaroni in a colander and set aside.
Making Cheese Sauce
Add Flour
Once the butter is melted, add 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour and whisk continuously for about 1 minute to create a roux.
Add Milk
Slowly pour in 1 cup of milk while whisking to avoid lumps. Continue stirring until the mixture thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
Add Cheese and Seasonings
Stir in 2 cups of cheddar cheese, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 teaspoon of garlic powder until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.
Combine and Serve
Combine Macaroni and Cheese Sauce
Add the drained macaroni back into the pot with the cheese sauce. Stir until the macaroni is well coated with the cheese sauce.
Serve
Serve immediately while hot. Optionally, garnish with additional cheese or breadcrumbs on top.
