Preparation

1

Prepare the Glass

Choose a lowball glass or an old-fashioned glass. Set it aside.

2

Infuse the Smoke

In a small smoker or with a smoking gun, add a handful of wood chips (hickory or cherry) and ignite them to create smoke. Capture the smoke in the glass for about 30 seconds to a minute. You can cover the glass with a small lid or another glass to hold the smoke inside.

Mixing the Cocktail

3

Combine Ingredients

In a mixing glass, combine 2 oz of bourbon, 1 tsp of simple syrup, and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.

4

Stir the Mixture

Add ice to the mixing glass and stir the mixture for about 30 seconds until chilled.

5

Strain into the Glass

Remove the smoke-covered glass from the smoke infuser and strain the chilled cocktail mixture into the glass over a large ice cube or a few smaller ice cubes.

Garnishing

6

Add Garnish

Garnish the cocktail with an orange peel and a maraschino cherry. To express the oils from the orange peel, gently twist it over the drink before placing it in the glass.
