Method

Calamari Preparation

1

Prepare the Calamari

Rinse the cleaned calamari under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.

2

Set Up Breading Station

In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. In another bowl, beat the eggs. In a third bowl, place the panko breadcrumbs.

3

Coat the Calamari

Dip each calamari ring first into the flour mixture, then into the beaten eggs, and finally coat with panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.

Frying

4

Heat the Oil

In a large, deep skillet or pot, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

5

Fry the Calamari

Working in batches, carefully add the breaded calamari to the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

6

Cook the Garlic

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

7

Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Add crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir and let simmer for 15-20 minutes, allowing flavors to meld.

8

Finish with Basil

Stir in the chopped fresh basil just before serving.

Lemon Aioli Preparation

9

Mix Ingredients

In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, minced garlic, lemon juice, lemon zest, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until smooth.
