Method
Cocktail
Chill glass (optional)
Place a lowball/Old-Fashioned glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the drink to lightly chill the glass. Discard ice water before pouring.
Combine spirits
Measure 2 oz cognac (or brandy) and 1 oz Bénédictine into a mixing glass or cocktail shaker filled with ice. The 2:1 ratio is classic and lets the cognac remain prominent while the Bénédictine adds herbal, honeyed complexity.
Stir
Stir the mixture gently with a bar spoon for 20–30 seconds until well-chilled and slightly diluted (about 10–15% dilution). Stirring keeps the texture silky and preserves clarity.
Strain
Discard ice from the chilled glass if used. Strain the chilled cocktail into the prepared lowball/Old-Fashioned glass over one large ice cube or a few large cubes.
Serve
Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate the interplay of warm brandy and aromatic Bénédictine.
