Method
Cocktail
Chill the glass
Place one large ice cube or several smaller cubes into the old-fashioned glass to chill while you build the drink.
Measure and combine
In a mixing glass, add 2 oz HARDY Noces d'Argent 25yr cognac, 0.5 oz sweet vermouth, 0.25 oz orange curaçao and 0.25 oz simple syrup.
Add bitters
Add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters to the mixing glass.
Prepare serving glass
Discard the ice used to chill the serving glass. Put a fresh large ice cube into the chilled old-fashioned glass.
Strain and garnish
Strain the stirred cocktail into the prepared glass over the fresh ice cube using the Hawthorne or julep strainer. Express the orange peel over the drink by holding it skin side down above the glass and gently pinching to release oils, then rub the rim with the peel and drop it into the drink as garnish.
Serve
Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate the 25‑year cognac's depth, with the sweet vermouth and orange curaçao adding balancing herbal and citrus notes.
Tools & Ice
Use the jigger to measure spirits and modifiers accurately. Use large ice cubes both for stirring (chill and control dilution) and for the serving glass to keep the drink cold without over-dilution.
If you prefer a slightly drier cocktail, reduce the simple syrup to 0.125 oz (a splash). For more citrus aroma, flame the orange peel quickly (optional) before expressing oils.
