Method

For the Onion Rings

1

Prepare the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into 1/2-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.

2

Make the Batter

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Gradually whisk in the cold sparkling water until the batter is smooth and slightly thick.

3

Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off, then coat with breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.

4

Fry the Onion Rings

In a deep skillet or fryer, heat the oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry the onion rings in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.

For the Dipping Sauce

5

Combine Ingredients

In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, ketchup, hot sauce, garlic powder, and salt. Adjust seasoning to taste.
