Method
Preparing the Fried Smashed Potatoes
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
Wash and scrub the baby potatoes. Place them in a pot of salted water, bring to a boil, and cook until fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.
Drain the potatoes and let them cool slightly. Once cool enough to handle, place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Using the bottom of a glass or a potato masher, gently smash each potato until flattened, about 1/2 inch thick.
Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
Cooking the Burger Patties
While the potatoes are baking, prepare the burger patties. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix until just combined.
Form the mixture into two equal patties, making a slight indentation in the center of each to prevent bulging during cooking.
Flip the patties and place a slice of smoked Gouda cheese on top of each patty. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes for medium doneness.
