Method

Waffle Preparation

1

Mix Waffle Batter

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. In another bowl, combine the milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.

2

Cook Waffles

Preheat your waffle iron according to manufacturer instructions. Pour the batter into the preheated waffle iron and cook until golden brown and crispy. Remove and keep warm.

Fried Chicken Preparation

3

Marinate Chicken

Place chicken thighs in a bowl and cover with buttermilk. Let marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour or overnight for best results.

4

Prepare Flour Mixture

In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.

5

Fry Chicken

Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat. Remove chicken from buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off, and dredge in the flour mixture. Fry the chicken in hot oil for about 6-8 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Peppered Bacon Preparation

6

Cook Bacon

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crispy, about 5-7 minutes. During the last minute of cooking, sprinkle black pepper over the bacon. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Sorghum Butter Preparation

7

Make Sorghum Butter

In a small bowl, mix softened butter and sorghum syrup until well combined. Set aside.

Bourbon Hickory Syrup Preparation

8

Prepare Syrup

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine maple syrup, bourbon, and hickory smoke flavoring. Stir until heated through. Do not boil.

Assembly

9

Plate the Dish

To serve, place a waffle on a plate, top with a piece of fried chicken, a strip of peppered bacon, and a dollop of sorghum butter. Drizzle with bourbon hickory syrup before serving.
