Baklava Ingredients

Method

Baklava Preparation

1

Prepare the Nut Mixture

In a food processor, combine the walnuts, sugar, and ground cinnamon. Pulse until finely chopped. Set aside.

2

Prepare the Phyllo Dough

Thaw the phyllo dough according to package instructions. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

3

Layer the Phyllo Dough

Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter. Layer 8 sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each sheet with butter before adding the next. Sprinkle a layer of the nut mixture over the phyllo.

4

Repeat Layers

Continue layering phyllo dough and nut mixture, alternating until all nuts are used, finishing with a top layer of phyllo (at least 8 sheets).

5

Cut the Baklava

Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes before baking.

6

Bake the Baklava

Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown.

7

Prepare the Syrup

In a saucepan, combine water, honey, and vanilla extract. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.

8

Add Syrup to Baklava

Once the baklava is done baking, immediately pour the hot syrup over it, ensuring that it seeps into the cuts.

9

Cool and Serve

Allow the baklava to cool completely before serving. Serve at room temperature.
