Spicy Chili-Infused Vodka
Cocktail
Method
Spicy Chili-Infused Vodka
Slice jalapeños
Wash the jalapeños, pat dry, and slice into thin rounds. Leave seeds if you want pronounced heat; remove seeds for milder infusion.
Combine ingredients
Place sliced jalapeños, dried red chili flakes, and optional garlic clove into the jar. Pour 2 cups vodka over the solids so they are fully submerged. Close the jar tightly.
Infuse
Let the vodka infuse at room temperature out of direct sunlight. Taste after 6 hours for mild heat, 24 hours for medium, and up to 48 hours for pronounced heat. For a cleaner flavor, shake gently once or twice a day.
Strain and store
When the desired heat and flavor are reached, strain the vodka through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean bottle. Discard solids. Store the infused vodka refrigerated or in a cool, dark place for up to 1 month for best flavor.
Cocktail
Prepare the glass
Rub a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks or coupe glass. Dip the rim into coarse salt or chili salt to coat. Fill the glass with ice if serving on the rocks, or leave chilled if serving straight up.
Mix the cocktail
In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz spicy chili-infused vodka, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz simple syrup, 0.5 oz orange liqueur, 0.25 oz fresh orange juice (if using), and 1 dash Angostura bitters (if using). Fill the shaker with ice.
Shake
Shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the shaker is icy cold to the touch and the ingredients are well-chilled and slightly diluted.
Strain and serve
Double-strain (using a Hawthorne and fine mesh strainer) into the prepared glass. If serving on the rocks, strain over fresh ice. Garnish with a lime wheel or a thin jalapeño slice placed on the rim or floated in the drink.
Adjust heat
If the cocktail is too spicy, add 0.25–0.5 oz simple syrup or additional fresh orange juice to balance. If it's not spicy enough, use a touch more infused vodka (0.25 oz increments) or make a hotter batch of infusion next time.
Serving note
This cocktail is best enjoyed chilled. The infused vodka can vary in heat—label the bottle with date and heat level for consistency.
