Preparation

1

Prepare the Marinara Sauce

If you're using homemade marinara sauce, prepare it ahead of time. Otherwise, heat the store-bought marinara sauce in a small saucepan over low heat until warmed.

2

Set Up Breading Station

In three separate shallow bowls, place the flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs. Ensure that you season the flour with a pinch of salt and pepper for added flavor.

3

Drain Mozzarella Balls

Drain the fresh mozzarella balls from any liquid and pat them dry with paper towels to ensure they are not wet before breading.

Breading and Frying

4

Bread the Mozzarella Balls

Take a mozzarella ball and coat it in the flour, shaking off any excess. Next, dip it into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, coat it in the breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere. Repeat with all mozzarella balls.

5

Heat the Oil

In a large, deep skillet or pot, add enough vegetable oil to submerge the mozzarella balls (about 2 inches deep). Heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small piece of bread in; if it bubbles and rises to the surface, it’s ready.

6

Fry the Mozzarella Balls

Carefully add the breaded mozzarella balls to the hot oil in batches, being sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Serving

7

Plate the Dish

On a serving plate, spread a generous amount of warmed marinara sauce as the base. Arrange the fried mozzarella balls on top of the sauce.

8

Garnish

If desired, garnish with fresh basil leaves and sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the top for added flavor and presentation.

9

Serve Immediately

Serve the Mozzarella Fritte hot, with extra marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
