Method

Preparing the Potatoes

1

Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

2

Wash the Potatoes

Scrub the russet potatoes under cold running water to remove any dirt. Pat them dry with a clean towel.

3

Pierce the Potatoes

Using a fork, prick each potato several times all over to allow steam to escape while baking.

4

Season the Potatoes

Rub each potato with a little olive oil and sprinkle with salt to taste for added flavor.

Baking the Potatoes

5

Bake the Potatoes

Place the prepared potatoes directly on the middle oven rack (or on a baking sheet) and bake for 45-60 minutes, or until the skin is crispy and the insides are soft.

6

Check for Doneness

To check if the potatoes are done, insert a fork or knife into the thickest part. It should slide in easily.

Serving the Potatoes

7

Remove from Oven

Carefully remove the baked potatoes from the oven using oven mitts.

8

Cut Open the Potatoes

Using a sharp knife, cut a slit down the center of each potato, being careful not to cut all the way through.

9

Add Toppings

Fluff the insides of the potatoes with a fork and add a tablespoon of butter, a dollop of sour cream, a sprinkle of shredded cheddar cheese, and chopped green onions. Season with black pepper to taste.

10

Serve

Serve the baked potatoes hot and enjoy!
