Fried Green Tomatoes
Remoulade
Method
Fried Green Tomatoes
Prepare the Tomatoes
Slice the green tomatoes into 1/4 inch thick slices. Sprinkle lightly with salt and let them sit for about 15 minutes to draw out excess moisture.
Set Up Breading Station
In three separate bowls, place the flour, beaten eggs mixed with buttermilk, and the cornmeal mixed with salt and black pepper.
Heat Oil
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it shimmers. You can test if it's ready by dropping a small piece of cornmeal into the oil; it should sizzle.
Fry the Tomatoes
Carefully add the coated tomato slices to the hot oil, without overcrowding the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
Drain and Serve
Once fried, remove the tomatoes from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Keep warm while you prepare the remoulade.
Remoulade
Mix Ingredients
In a medium bowl, combine the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, minced garlic, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Stir until well blended.
Adjust Seasoning
Taste the remoulade and adjust seasoning with more salt and pepper if desired.
Serve
Serve the fried green tomatoes hot with a side of remoulade for dipping.
