Method
Prepare the Beef Patties
Mix the Beef
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined. Avoid overworking the meat.
Form Patties
Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties about 1/2 inch thick.
Cook the Patties
Cook First Side
Cook the patties for about 3-4 minutes on one side until browned. Flip them over.
Cook Second Side
After flipping, immediately place 2 slices of American cheese on each patty. Cook for another 3-4 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the patties are cooked to your desired doneness.
Assemble the Burger
Prepare Vegetables
While the patties are cooking, wash and slice the tomato, onion, and prepare the lettuce and pickles.
Toast Buns
Toast the burger buns lightly on the grill or in a toaster if desired.
Layer Ingredients
On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by a cheesy beef patty. Add raw onion slices, tomato slices, and pickles on top.
Complete the Burger
Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.
