Burger Patties

Method

Preparing the Patties

1

Mash the Beans

In a large bowl, mash the cooked black beans with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth but still a bit chunky.

2

Combine Ingredients

Add the oats, grated carrot, chopped onion, minced garlic, ground cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper to the mashed beans. Mix until well combined.

3

Form Patties

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a burger patty.

4

Cook the Patties

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and heated through.

Assembling the Burger

5

Toast the Buns

Optional: Toast the whole grain burger buns in a toaster or on a skillet until golden brown.

6

Add Toppings

Spread vegan mayonnaise on the bottom half of each bun. Place a lettuce leaf, a slice of tomato, and a few slices of avocado on top.

7

Add the Patty

Place the cooked patty on top of the toppings, then cover with the top half of the bun.

8

Serve

Serve your plant-based burger immediately with your favorite side dish.
