Cake Preparation
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder (if using) until fully combined.
Cream Butter and Sugar
In another bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
Add Eggs and Vanilla
Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Then, stir in the vanilla extract and flavor extract of choice.
Pour into Pans
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and smooth out the tops.
Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cool the Cakes
Once baked, allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
Frosting Preparation
Make the Frosting
In a large bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, alternating with heavy cream and vanilla extract. Beat until fluffy and smooth.
Frost the Cake
Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
